Viola
Similar to its sister the pansy, viola stands up to cold weather as well as to heat. Viola is a compact plant with dainty looking flowers that veil its true sturdy nature. Use violas in containers and window boxes, or plant them in masses in the landscape. Typically treated as an annual, viola will last through winter in far Southern regions. They are an ideal choice for winter or spring color. Like pansies, the flowers are edible if you grow them without pesticides. Use them to add color to salads and deserts.
