Dianthus
Among the most fragrant early spring flowers, these colorful blooms with delicate fringed petals are the perfect accent for beds, borders, containers, and rock gardens. Very easy to grow and maintain. Dianthus can tolerate light frost and makes a great fall and winter selection in Southern regions; remove fading flowers to encourage fall blooms. Cut a few for tiny vases to bring the fragrance indoors. These are the same flowers that go by the old-fashioned name "Pinks." In climates where it is neither extremely hot or cold, such as coastal Southern California, dianthus is a short-lived perennial.
